Candidate scoops top award

UP & Working candidate Oralu Mai has been successful in her application for the Adult Learners Week 'Information, Advice and Guidance' award.
Oralu was one of 21 successful nominees, selected from over 50 applicants for one of the events prestigious awards. Oralu and the other successful applicants were presented with their awards at the Adult Learners Week event, held on the 14th May at the Huddersfield Town Hall.
Oralu signed up to UP & Working in September 2008. Due to personal circumstances She was suffering from low self confidence, a barrier that was preventing her from securing employment.
Orlau wanted to help other people overcome similar barriers to her own, calling upon her life experiences to pass on advice and guidance. She also needed to build her own confidence, giving her the ability to share these experiences and correctly advise others.
In order to achieve these goals UP & Working registered Oralu for the NOCN Level 2 award in Developing Information Advice and Guidance as it provided the ideal learning opportunity for Orlau to gain all the relevant skills required.
As a direct result of her learning Oralu now volunteers for the NHS and she assists with the running of a local community shop.
